Pardon me, but I’m going to break the fourth wall here.
I’m Matt and I absolutely love what’s happening with Dark Emerald Studios and their upcoming title ‘Enci’s Solution’!
I typically write blog posts from the voice of WhiteMoon Dreams as the whole – not from my own singular experience. However, through our work with Dark Emerald Studios and SIE’s MENA Hero Project, I’ve been blessed with the chance to playtest Enci’s Solution and I’ve become a full fledged fan boy at this point. So I kind of have to write from the point of view of an absolute ranting, raving dork (I didn’t make the rules).
Our involvement with Enci’s Solution started much like WhiteMoon Dreams’ work with SIE’s India Hero Project, only now we’re mentoring and assisting a cohort of small studios from the Middle East and North Africa region to get their titles optimized and shipped on PS5.
One of the many great teams we’re co-developing with is Dark Emerald Studios, based in Dubai. From my very first moment of playing the game, it was apparent that this studio cares about everything that hits the screen. The art, the sounds, the animation, the controls – everything comes across as pure energy and effort. Enci’s Solution is filled with so much surprise and delight I don’t even know where to begin.
The controls: They’re snappy and responsive, exactly what you want in a puzzle platformer. Movement is FUN and not frustrating. The controls feel tight and free flowing at the same time. The character does what you expect it to do and if you mess up, it’s your fault and you know what to work on.
The visuals: It’s a beautiful game. The art is unique and the characters have are memorable. The animation is very good and there’s subtle flourishes of detail that make the world feel alive.
The sound: The music? Bangers. The sound design is also super on point. Everything from the traps and puzzles to the main character and even the menus are filled with what I might call ear candy.
The fun: It’s all there. Navigating the world is fun, the puzzles are fun. Even dying is fun because respawns come fast and you always learn from your mistakes. Yes, I said it – dying is fun in this game.
The craziest part is, the game is still in development! I haven’t even seen it’s final form and already I’m obsessed.
Okay, I will put down my megaphone and leave you with this:
